ON MUSEUMS AND CHURCHES

Brad Berglund: There is one more museum that has many Tiffany Lamps in N.Y. It is the Queens Museum of Art, Flushing Meadows Park, Queens, N. Y. 11368 tel# 718-592-9700 Also, I visited the N.Y. Historical Society and their Tiffany collection about 2 yrs. ago. They have, as I remember, 40-50 lamps. I saw 14 of those lamps. They had just finished remodeling & they had a fire. The lamps (the other 30 suffered smoke damage & had to be cleaned).* The N.Y. Historical Society is located at 2 West 77th St. (Central Park West) , N.Y., N.Y Tel# 212-873-3400. Also, if you want to see original Tiffany Lamps for sale, check Nina Rosenblatt Gallery, 844 Madison Ave., Tel # 212-288-0257, Lillian Nassau Gallery,** 220 E. 57th St., Tel# 212-759-6062, and finally Weinstein Gallery, 760 Madison Ave., ( near Nina's on a 2nd floor) tel# 212-717-6333. * As of Feb. '99 the N.Y. Hist. Soc's lamp collection was still not available for viewing.

ON USEFUL BOOKS AND VIDEOS

Barb Grollo: The other video I bought is entitled "Louis Comfort Tiffany Remembered" with Hugh F. McKean, who is the director of the Charles Hosmer Morse Foundation in Winter Park, FL. I really liked this one, as it contains a lot of footage on the museum, and you can tell it was done from real admiration. I imagine you can get either of these from the Met. Museum, as I purchased them in their gift shop. In case anyone is interested, the toll free number is 1-800-468-7386. They are $19.95 each. I also purchased the book which covers the exhibit at the Met, and though it's informative, there are only a few lamps shown. The title is "Louis Comfort Tiffiany at the Metropolitan Museum of Art" and that's also $19.95. At the Queens Museum of Art, I bought their exhibit book, titled "The Lamps of Tiffany", Highlights of the Egon and Hildegard Neustadt Collection, and that was only $10.25, and is only lamps. The number for the Queens Museum is 1-718-592-9700. Note: The Queen's Museum of Art also sells a video on restoration of Tiffany lamps.

Brad Berglund: Of interest is a quality picture book on flowers. This book is called the 'Artists Photo Reference -Flowers'. It is by Gary Greene. There are 500 pictures of a variety of flowers taken in various profiles. The key with this book is that the detail is clear and it was written for artists studying flowers. There are 13 flowers (in a variety of profiles) that are those varieties used in the Odyssey molds. The book is hardcover & about $28.99 . Printed by North Light Books 800-289-0963 It is very good !

Joan Bengston: Brad wrote: 'Artists Photo Reference -Flowers'. It is by Gary Greene. Thanks, Brad, for the recommendation. I found it on Amazon.com for $20.29. After adding shipping and handling I still saved about $5.

Carl Chapman: Yesterday I got the latest issue of "American Scientist." In it was a book review that some might find of interest. The title was "Glass: From the first mirror to fiber optics, the story of the substance that changed the world." The author was William S. Ellis, 306 pp., Avon Books, 1998. Some may find it a bit technical, but the review did show a picture of a Dale Chihuly glass sculpture. Suggested price was $25.00.
